Is it like the hand of God hovering above? At least it is true, that man has no control, even over his own will. These spoken words at the beginning of each episode refer to the primary theme of Berserk: Every human is controlled by fate. We are introduced to the main character, Guts(The Black Swordsman), in the first episode. He is a tall man who is indelibly marked with the Brand on his neck. This horrible symbol draws all of demonkind to him. Guts wields a huge sword, throwing knives, an arm cannon, and a repeating crossbow. If one were to look at him, they could tell he's been through a lot. Guts has a prosthetic left arm and is also missing his right eye; in addition to the countless scars on his body. What has happened to this man? Placed in a medieval setting, Berserk tells the story of a younger Guts and the charismatic Griffith. A 100 year war rages between the kingdom of Midland and the empire of Chuder. Among the many armies, there is one group which shines above the rest: The Band of the Hawk. This elite mercenary group on the side of Midland is known as "death on the battlefield." Griffith, the leader of this group, is pursuing his dream and nothing will come in his way, especially with Guts at his side. As soon as they meet, the wheels of fate are set in motion and nothing will ever be the same. This anime is an adaptation of the ongoing manga masterpiece created by Kentarou Miura.

Originally on: TV Tokyo (30 min.) Status: Ended Premiered: September 8, 1996 Last Aired: August 31, 1997 Show Categories: Animation, Drama Boys over Flowers is the story of Makino Tsukushi, a 16 year old girl from the wrong side of the tracks who is a new student at Eitoku Gakuen, a very exclusive school that is attended by the richest of society's children. At first she choses to stay unknown for the remaining two years of her stay at the school. But her one and only friend gets in trouble with the F4 and Tsukushi stands up for her friend. She receives a red card and that's when all the confusion begins. The F4 are Hanazawa Rui 18, Nishikado Soujirou 18, Mimasaka Akira 18 and Doumyouji Tsukasa 17 who is the ringleader of the group. Tsukushi's unexpected resistance piques Doumyouji's interest. Her strength proves to be attractive to him, and he ends up having a crush on her, even though they are 'at war' with each other. Tsukushi, on the other hand, does not seem to be that impressed with the rich, arrogant Doumyouji, and instead finds herself attracted to another member of the F4, the quiet, sensitive violin player, Hanazawa Rui. This sets up an explosive triangle of love and hate relationships, as Tsukushi finds herself in the middle of a tug of war between Rui and Doumyouji. Tsukushi has to face the pressure of the school's rapidly shifting opinion of her, her status as a poor girl in a rich school, and her attraction to a cool but mysterious guy (Rui) while at the same time dealing with the advances of Doumyouji. If you should come across this series, I highly recommend checking it out!

Originally on: SBS (30 min.) Status: Ended Premiered: May 1, 2001 Last Aired: November 1, 2001 Show Categories: Animation, Science-Fiction In the 2030's, an earthquake hit Tokyo, killing millions and devastating the city. In order to speed up the rebuilding after this castrophe, the powerful Genom corporation mass produced boomers- smart robots that can be designed and programmed to take on almost any task. Now, seven years later, and some of the boomers have started going rogue- mutating horribly and destroying everything in their path. Even the special AD Police department set up to deal with this threat can't handle the job. Instead, the citizens of Tokyo must rely on the services of the vigilante group of women known as the Knight Sabers. Encased in their armoured hardsuits, Linna, Priss, Nene and Sylia are ready for action- but can they even imagine the nightmares awaiting them? Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 is a remake of the original Bubblegum Crisis and its follow-up Bubblegum Crash. Other spin-offs include AD Police and Parasite Dolls. There is also an upcoming sequel, Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2041, but so far nothing has been released about this (ADV say there is no information at this time). Characters Knight Sabers Priss Asagiri: Priss seems to epitomise the typical "rock chick" stereotype. When she isn't performing with her band down at the Hot Legs club, she can usually be found riding her bike through town. A woman of few words, Priss claims that her only reason for being a Knight Saber is the money. However, no matter how much she tries to hide it, there is no denying the bond of friendship between her and the other Knight Sabers. In battle, Priss and her blue hardsuit are never far from the action. Her excellent fighting skills, bold strategies and readiness to accept personal risk makes her the natural leader of most field operations- although the last thing she wants is for anyone else to get hurt on her watch. Linna Yamazaki: It is easy to dismiss Linna as a naïve country hick, but underneath her quiet exterior lurks a fiery core. Linna isn't afraid to stand up for herself, and her strong sense of justice shows through in everything she does.. Although she feels that she doesn't quite fit in back home, Linna finds acceptance and a purpose with the Knight Sabers in Tokyo. As the newest member of the Knight Sabers, Linna's goal is to master her green hardsuit and outdo even Priss. A former track-and-field star, Linna has a natural ability for battle, and soon proves herself invaluable to the team. Nene Romanova: The youngest Knight Saber is also the most hot-headed, but no one can deny Nene's usefulness to the team. Her position as a communications officer in the ADP, coupled with her genius for hacking computer systems, helps keep the Knight Sabers one step ahead of the rest. Just make sure never to underestimate her or call her "kid"! In her red hardsuit, Nene may not be the best fighter on the team, but she has more than her fair share of enthusiasm- although that can be as much of a liability as an asset! Nene is often found hacking into various control rooms to give the team an advantage on their missions. Sylia Stingray: to any of her customers at the Silky Doll boutique, Sylia seems like nothing more than a cheerful shop owner, always encouraging them to buy a dress that's a bit sexier and more revealing than the one they intended to purchase. Naturally, the truth is far more complex than that. Founder of the Knight Sabers, Sylia is prone to wild mood swings, her cool professionalism taken over by violent outbursts caused by her hatred of boomers. Are there secrets in Sylia's past that make her act this way? Sylia is officially retired from active duty, but when the need arises, she dons her silver hardsuit. As the founder of the Knight Sabers, she is completely familiar with her hardsuit and her skill in battle cannot be denied. Friends and Allies Meisio Henderson: Sylia's butler, he cares deeply for his mistress and spends many hours worrying about her. Nigel Kirkland: A former employee of Sylia's father, Nigel and Sylia are old friends, and it is he who builds and maintains the hardsuits for her. It is clear that their relationship is more intimate than that, however, although there is little romance to their liaisons. A man of few words, Nigel finds a kindred spirit in Priss, although his prior commitment to Sylia prevents Priss from getting as close as she would like. Mackey Stingray: Sylia's younger brother, his love of machines draws him into the routine of the Knight Sabers. He can often be found helping Nigel with repairs, or learning about computers from Nene. But Mackey may not be the normal teenager he appears to be – the secrets in his family's past seem to affect him as well. AD Police Set up to investigate rogue boomer incidents, the ADP is financed by Genom, which makes them subject to the company's whim. Seen as a joke for their incompetent gung-ho attitude, their main purpose is to prevent the real police from having the authority to sniff out secrets Genom wants safely hidden. Nick Roland: Chief of the ADP, Nick is often torn between following up on a case or backing off when the higher-ups don't want his people snooping around. Essentially a good man, Nick will disregard orders if it means he can save innocent lives. Leon McNichol: Leon may be hot-headed and a bit too quick to act before he thinks, but he is a committed officer, and more competent than the average ADP cop. Determined to prove that the ADP are more than a joke, Leon applies himself to every case that comes his way- but is all too often frustrated when the Knight Sabers or Genom get in his way. Daley Wong: Leon's partner in the ADP, Daley complements Leon with his cool thinking and logical attitude. Although he loves to tease his partner, Daley is just as ready for action as Leon is, and never shrinks from following through on a case, even if ordered to drop it. Genom Not only are Genom in charge of the manufacturing and development of boomers, they also have a tight handle on the media. Whilst the Chairman and Vice Chairman pursue their own agendas, they make sure that the public never hears about things like rogue boomers and vigilantes. Quincy Rosencroitz: Chairman of Genom, Quincy is so old and frail that he has to be permanently hooked into a life support apparatus. His mind is still as sharp as ever, though, and he constantly plots to make people accept his boomers in all walks of life. Brian J. Mason: Although he pays lip service to Quincy, Vice-Chairman Mason has little respect for his boss, and only wants him to hurry up and die! The dark agendas that Mason pursues spread beyond the corporate world, however, and threaten to endanger all of Tokyo.

Status: Ended Premiered: April 10, 1996 Last Aired: September 26, 1996 Show Categories: Animation, Science-Fiction Rio, Maya, Lilica, Nanvel, Yugi and Maki ain't your ordinary police officers. When trouble is brewing in Neo Tokyo, trouble of a terrorist syndicate spreading it's new tool in brain washing technology across the city, the virtual drug, the Higher Ups call upon Team WARRIOR: a top secret anti-terrorist police force that will stop at nothing to preserve the peace (Or at least their versionof it). Characters Rio When not busy patrolling the mean streets of Neo-Tokyo, or processing paperwork for her authoritarian boss- Rio is a habitual shop-o-holic that takes immense gratification in using her incredibly sexy figure to manipulate her supervisor, as well as her wanna-be boyfriend, Yuji, into getting whatever she desires out of them. When criminals and terrorist plots begin to unravel however, Rio is an entirely different person. As a member of Team Warrior, Rio fights with a tenacity that has earned Team Warrior the well-deserved reputation of being the police department's most elite, destructive, and costly unit. Dedicated to accomplishing her mission, Rio spares no expense in the pursuit of justice- much to the dismay of the Policetown accounting office Maya The only woman in existence who probably gains as much gratification in firing a gun as she does partaking in a night of blissful sex-- Maya has been known to spend her free time situated atop of high-rise buildings with a high-powered rifle- bombarding criminals with a hail of sniper fire for her own personal enjoyment. It has been speculated that Maya most likely decided to become a member of Team Warrior in order to be able to shoot at people without the threat of reprisal from the Law. Her past, however, tells another story that harkens back to her days with the syndicate. An elite sharpshooter and demolitions expert -- Maya takes immense pleasure in being in the midst of dangerous situations and will threaten to quit the team and become a mercenary if her missions do not allocate her enough targets to place excessive amounts of ordinance upon. Lilica Although she comes across as not being a very serious girl, Lilica is exceptionally talented when it comes to anything technical or computer-related. Whenever you see her at a computer, she usually has a huge grin on her face, or is happily goofing off behind the keyboard. She generally considers computer work to be more of a game than an actual job. Lilica comes from a wealthy family, and most likely doesn't even have a reason to need a job in the first place. She most likely became a member of Team Warrior for the reasons of, as she put it: "flesh, sex and violence". Lilica is one of the principle members of the Warrior team, and her talents are essential in an age when computers are a fundamental part of everyday life. Nanvel One of the main advantages Team Warrior has over the regular police force is that the team has access to some of the most state-of-the-art equipment in the world. Whereas Lilica is well versed when it comes to computers and electronics, Nanvel is a genius when it comes to designing and creating brand new equipment and weapons of mass destruction to keep Warrior supplied with the finest equipment in the world. While the creativity of this exotic beauty is unlimited, the funding for her inventions is not. Nanvel is also notorious for leaving out specific details or creating equipment that goes bad due to her inadequate funding. Even though Nanvel spends most of her time in the dusty basement of Policetown, she is still a very important asset to the Warrior team. Maki Maki is the person who is in charge of Team Warrior and signs the deployment orders for the squad around Policetown. This cunning and manipulative woman is well versed in the politics of the police department that permits for the deployment of her elite strike force without the minor tribulations of funding getting in her way. Team Warrior is not exactly the most cost-effective force for the police department to deploy in any situation, due to the massive amount of damage the girls tend to cause while dispensing justice in their own unique fashion. Fortunately for Team Warrior, Maki possesses the smarts and charm to talk her superiors into appropriating the necessary funding for their extensive operations. Yugi From his appearance and demeanor, Yuji comes off with possessing the conduct of a smooth ladies man… at least, that is what he thinks. Regrettably for this drooling pervert, he has a great deal to learn about the ladies before he will actually get anywhere with one. His failure to attract real women has drawn him to spend a great deal of his free time lusting after virtual idols, and taking lewd pictures of any woman he can get in his camera lens. You would be inclined to believe that being the only male member of Team Warrior would have its advantages. While to a certain extent that is true, Yuji usually tends to be punished quite often by the object of his affection, Rio, as well as the other members of Warrior-- regardless of whether he deserves it or not.
